Thoughts on Becoming President

When I offerred to run for President in order to fill a vacancy left by a resignation I did so with a great deal of trepidation. After all I have “done my time”. I have other interests I would like to pursue However, I felt a responsibility to the organization to which I have given so much of my time. We face many challenges including a stagnant yet valued membership, little traffic to this website and few resources to contact all of the 16,000 technologists in New York State. I hope that in the next two years I can assist in revitalizing this organization, get people excited about this website and increase membership, thereby increasing revenue. Please help me in my quest!

NYSSRS is lucky to have such a dedicated leader.

Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.” ~Elizabeth Andrew

Becoming the president of a nationally recognized professional organization like NYSSRS is, is the highest honor. However, this honor comes at a price. Our colleagues that have held this position have put thier personal lives on the back burner to meet the needs of the society. They travel to meet with officials in “the state”, the ARRT, the ASRT and thier subordinate societies in NY. They learn more about the inner workings of government (local, state and national) in the 6 years serving the board, than most of us will learn in our entire careers. Why do they do all this? Because they love their profession, they love the state in which they practice and they want to be change agents for those of us who are home enjoying our lives. Thank you past and current presidents!!! Your professionalism is inspiring.
